A Journal Shared is a Journey for Life

Today Audrey and I had what I could only rightly call a discussion and I have decided there's a big and important difference between a journal and a diary. A journal (according to etymonline.com) is "from Old French jornel, "a day; time; a day's travel or work." A diary carries the significance of daily writing, but less the idea of being rooted in the journey of life and seeing life as a journey.

As many have probably noted, Audrey and I live life together. We share colds. We share excitement. And now we share this journal. I initially claimed the journal for myself, ready to write in it and reflect on the variety of creative expression it offers through writing, coloring, doodling, prompts and blank space. This is the book that makes me reflect on our creative God and feel as if my time with Him can be filled with sharing that creative part of who God is. I've never had something, not a coloring book or a journal, that struck me as such an opportunity to express gratitude and intimacy with God and to God.

However, I did not realize that as soon as my daughter saw the journal, she too claimed it for herself. The beautiful designs full of colorful potential, space to draw and time available to spend with Mommy was altogether irresistible.

And so it is. This is infinitely better than a simple coloring book-- with a strong and colorful color, color and potential for color painting the insides as well as opportunities to express and satisfy every creative urge, this journal allows for a joint journey of gratitude and intimacy with God.

In the meantime, enjoy Audrey's favorite page, which I found on the Inspire Creativity board on Pinterest!
