Same Kind of Different as Me: A Review

by all, Rob, Denver Moore & Lynn Vincent

"Why, he wondered, did rich people call it sushi while poor people call it bait?"

""It's just a simple fact that in America drugs and booze cost money, but food is free to anyone willing to snooze through a gospel message."

"I just kept eatin all that free food, but I just didn't feel right 'bout usin the Man's bathroom, so I didn't go the whole time I was up there. So here I am, tryin to get unplugged!"

"The Word says God don't give us credit for lovin the folks we want to love anyway. No, He gives us credit for loving the unlovable. The perfect love of God don't come with no conditions... ."

"I wish you coulda seen all them little circles a' homeless folks with their heads bowed and their eyes closed, whisperin what was on their hearts. Seemed like they didn't have no thin to give, but they was givin what they had, takin the time to knock on God's front door and ask Him to heal this woman that had loved them."

"But pain makes life fuller, richer."

"No, sir," he said quietly. "I ain't for hire. I did that to bless you and your family. Money can't buy no blessins."

"But according to Webster's, [death is] also a place people pass through on their way to somewhere else. Deborah knew her 'somewhere else' was heaven. She was just hoping the train was delayed."

"We're all terminal," I said, smiling gently. "None of us makes it out of here alive."

"The truth is, that which must befall thee must befall thee. And that which must pass thee by must pass thee by."

" How do you live the rest of your life in just a few days?"

Look at the last eleven years ... if she hadn't happened, our life together would never have been as wonderful as it has been. And now you have my permission to go back to her."

"Books on dying should be altered, or at least footnoted, to include the possible outcomes of people like Deborah, who, when death came calling, summoned the strength to reschedule and politely close the door."

Ever man should have the courage to stand up and face the enemy," I said, "cause ever person that looks like a enemy on the outside ain't necessarily on the inside."

"Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the earth and dies, it remains by itself, alone. But if it dies, it bears much fruit."

"But I found out everybody's different-- the same kind of different as me. We're all just regular folks walkin down the road God set in front of us."

"So in a way, we is all homeless just workin our way toward home."

Micah 6:8

He has showed you, O man, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you but to do justly, and to love kindness and mercy, and to humble yourself and walk humbly with your God?

What are three things you can do to provide ministry to the homeless people in your community?
