What's in a Pun?

Is your dad the king of all things cheesy? I can tell you mine is. He has cracked us up for years with ridiculous wordplay and puns. Perhaps as a result or perhaps just because I love words and their power, I've been on a word game kick and so I thought I'd give this new game I discovered a shot. The idea is fantastic and I would love nothing better to see the best punmasters in my family go at it.

The game is Punderdome and the main point of the game is to use two prompt cards to create a cheesy pun. There are a variety of prompts, I believe about 200 in total. There are also blank note cards where you can make up your own prompts. It kind of reminds me of a challenging Apples to Apples.

So say you get these two prompts about the Bible and cleaning. What kind of pun would you make? At first, you might think it's easy. And perhaps for people like my dad, it could be easy. And hilarious for that matter. If he didn't live so far away, I'd love to watch him play this. However, I can't for the life of me think of anything to go with the prompts. The game is tough. This could be a great Facebook challenge! Perhaps I'll start weekly challenges to see who can make the best puns with random Punderdome prompts. It's a thought. What pun would you make using these two cards?

But don't let the difficulty level get you down. I have no talent for making puns and, even if I did, I've discovered that in a poly-lingual household, somebody would always be at a disadvantage with these kinds of games (I soooooo want to play Balderdash or Scrabble with someone who has a chance at beating me).

But this game has another side. Literally. On the opposite side of all the prompts are jokes! My daughter has long desired to be a jokester. She will here a joke in a movie and repeat it for months (maybe even years). For that joke-loving kid in your family (regardless of age), this is actually a great game! Why not use the prompts to make up sentences to use with dental mouth guards for a hilarious game of "What'd they say?" or practice your humor style or build your joke repertoire?

While the game may stump you on its own, its uses far surpass the obvious or the directions and whichever way you choose to use it, it could be very worth it for all the fun and laughs on either side of the card.
