Basic Makeup Hints
For the Preteen/Teen Princess
These are the years where kids fall into the traps of stereotypes of all shapes and sizes. These stereotypes come from peers, media and even parents! One of the most important things to remember as a teen or preteen (or as a parent) is that NOT ALL GIRLS THIS AGE ARE THE SAME! Nor should they be.
1– Therefore, the first hint of preteen or teen beauty is… To thyself be true. Take care of yourself, of your skin and (if you decide to use makeup) makeup should enhance your natural beauty and not cover it up. We’ll go into skin care in a moment, but for this hint, I’m talking more about how and what you use in terms of makeup. We all have things we want to show off and things we want to hide. Makeup can hide blemishes, skin care can prevent or take care of skin issues, but the best method of a great makeover is highlighting your great features, not hiding your not-so-great features. If you’re not aware of you’re highlighting features, ask a friend (or ask me).
Keep in mind that highlighting or accenting a feature does not always mean bold or dark colors. Sometimes these colors (depending on your face shape and skin tone) can hide those great features instead of highlighting them. So I would recommend talking to a local Mary Kay consultant or stopping by your local mall. Again, the test of whether that “pro” is doing a good job is if you’re hidden… or highlighted.
Basic Skin Care Hints
For the Preteen/Teen Princess
I talked before about how preteens/teens are often stereotyped. This goes for the skincare market as well. Just because a face wash says it is made for teens or young skin doesn’t mean it will work for all girls your age. Many will probably get the job done, but you’ll want to test and see what works best for you. Know your skin. Do you constantly feel like you’re wiping oil off your face? Or does your forehead feel so dry it flakes? If the answer is no to both, you probably have what is described as “normal” skin. You do not and should not use anti-aging solutions at this stage in your life. If you have sensitive skin or like something that is more natural overall, check out Mary Kay’s Botanical line, which comes in formulas for oily, dry, and normal skin. If you’re wanting something made specifically for young skin with a light scent, I would recommend Velocity’s skin care line (again, Mary Kay). As you grow, talk with a female you trust about your skin care worries or desires.
There are many many products out there, and your face is one of the most important areas when it comes to taking care of your physical appearance. You will grow. You will change. But it doesn’t have to be a bad experience if you communicate with those who can answer your questions. Again, if you don’t have someone in your life, feel free to contact me!
Timeless Beauty
There is not one woman on the face of this earth, no matter what age or stage in life, that doesn’t have some concern for her physical appearance. However, someone who is only beautiful on the exterior can, in fact, come across as ugly simply by their actions. And many are made only more attractive by their actions and words. No friend worth having (or worth keeping) has stayed your friend because of how you look. And a loyal friend cannot be bought. Seek good friends, because friends with great internal qualities will be the ones in your wedding, by your side when you get old. Those who have forever friends know there’s nothing to replace them. So seek internal beauty (because inner beauty really does speak loudly) and seek beautiful friends (i.e. with good values, dreams, and actions). Remember, you are the way you treat people of all ages.
