Following Through on Promises

A month ago Audrey and I travelled for a week and one of the places we visited was the Children's Museum in Indianapolis. There they had an exhibit talking about Children Making a Difference. Before leaving the exhibit, you are encouraged to make a promise to make a difference in a specific way, however small. As usually, Audrey had no plans of thinking small. She registered on the computer and wrote on a leaf saying that she promised to do a book drive to give to sick kids (see the video below).
While most of what we are doing is said on the video, I wanted to take a moment to reflect and gather all the information. I found article after article about the plight of refugees from Middle Eastern countries. A friend of mine opened my eyes to the opportunity to help in a very ground-level way (he is hands-on with families in Jordan). While many places are still closed to refugees, what can we do to help???
At the same time, I have seen many articles about Cancer Awareness Month and specifically becoming aware of several children at our church who have had or are currently going through the dangerous struggle that is cancer.
Our desire to help kids in a real way brought me to seek out more and more and so here I am, with the crazy idea (as are many of my ideas) to double the "fun." Books are hard to ship internationally, and I wanted to do something special that kids with cancer could feel, see and touch. So we are doing a book drive whose books will be donated to kids with cancer and whose funds will be used to help refugees in Jordan! Please visit our Facebook page for shipping information if you plan do ship books to us to add to our donation! Otherwise, any books ordered, whether for you or to donate, would help add to what we are sending to the refugees.
