As you've seen in previous posts, technology is a huge part in our everyday schooling, and YouTube has helped us on just about every topic. Below are our Top 8 Favorites for Educational YouTube Fun! Know that these are in no particular order because they really are all so different and on a variety of topics, so they are more in the order they appeared in my web browser.
1. Cool School
For interesting and fun retellings of many classic stories, my daughter actually discovered Cool School on her own! They do reenactments of stories as well as many craft videos to go along with the stories! This is one of those channels Audrey will go to on her own time.
2. SciShow Kids
Short videos on so many science topics, this channel is for your curious question-asker. I will often check here and on the next channel if I get any questions during our science lessons or if I want to supplement. Sometimes we start with one video and she gets curious about the next! Fun, simple, and doesn't test their
3. Crash Course Kids
Crash Course YouTube channels are fantastic for learning of all ages and include videos on Science, History, Psychology and much more. Crash Course Kids is currently focused primarily on science, but I really enjoy all their channels so much that I hope they begin to branch out into the other fields on this channel as well!
4. Piano Guys
Audrey is taking piano lessons, and I believe music and piano are huge in helping to grasp mathematical concepts and studies show the value of music in learning. The Piano Guys channel is a very fun way to interact with both past and present works and to have fun with music!
5. TedEd
While many things on this channel can be over my 5 year old's head, some things sink in. TedEd is great for a variety of learning on a variety of topics. They talk a lot about language, psychology and science, but answer questions on so many different topics. These are probably more useful in older children, but I still do go through and watch for my own edification and also find some that my daughter can understand as well.
6. Slo Mo Guys
This is addictive. There. You've had warning. They go through a variety of experiments, make predictions and then show things in very slow motion. It sounds simple and it is. It's also very very cool. My daughter LOVES this.
7. At-Bristol Science Center
We discovered this through our science encyclopedia and keep going back to see new things, particularly the dissections, which we love! Audrey's favorite is this one below:
10. Geography Now
He's still working on adding countries, but it's really great to have this intro to a country. While it is not all-inclusive, these are great for-fun introductions to cultures you might be studying.
9. Alex Boye
While not in and of itself educational, we do enjoy watching when cultures mix and this is a very interesting channel to see the intersection of cultures. Of course, our favorite is the song that (for Audrey) never gets old....
Thanks for tuning in! I realize that most of these are indeed more science focused. I am always in search of additional resources, so if you know of other channels, I would love to add to our list!
